You will need to arrange to be picked up or get transport to a hotel on this evening.
What is a portfolio building day?
Portfolio building days are days for you to update your portfolio with the skills learnt at the workshop. Lots of diverse models will be supplied for your use, They will be dressed appropriately for portraits and chosen for their look. The locations will be provided, and chosen carefully for their appeal . It will be up to you as photographers to chose the models and shots that you want to take . We do ask that you all respect each other’s shooting space and time. You will not be allowed to shoot over the shoulder of another photographer, or take the shot they set up . There will be enough models and ‘good spots” for you to make your own space and set up. Maximum 15 mins per model * with exception of the newborns and family groups which you will work with in groups of 3 *
We are hoping that by providing this day to you all, will help you feel less pressure during the 3 day workshop to “get the shot” rather taking in and learning what is being taught.
All images you take on the portfolio building day can be used for marketing your business and on the internet, we do ask that you do not sell them as stock. Images will be needed to be given to the models you shoot on disk, no less than 4 weeks after the workshop. If the images are not provided to the models, your permission to use them will be revoked. *
About the speakers
Brianne Graham – Brianna Graham is an award winning photographer She has a candid, elegant approach to photographing that has gained much praise both locally, and nationally. View her work here http://briannagraham.com/
Ashley Skjaveland - Creating art is my passion and has been since I was little. Back before my kids, before my husband, back when there was only myself – my joy was creating art. I adored drawing with charcoal, painting and taking photographs. Photography was something that came very naturally to me. I have always been very sensitive to the emotional connection you can have with an image. A photograph is a wonder. It can capture not only time, but a feeling… a whisper. I began working almost exclusively with newborns shortly after the birth of my second daughter. My love of creating art with photography was now being combined with an overpowering connection to these pure, extraordinary people.
During our day together I will be showing my approach to working with the most beautiful, pure and unpredictable subjects. We will have a very relaxed day where you will see how I interact, pose and photograph my newborns to create pure and simple images that all Mommy’s adore.”

Raye Law – Raye’s work has been printed in numerous national publications such as Professional Photographer and Adoptive Families magazines, as well as a hard back coffee table book titled Little Red Heads Across America. She has been featured many times online as an expert in photographing toddlers. And she also provides commercial, editorial, and stock photography services for companies that are in need of natural photographs of children.
Her style is simple yet full of emotion. It has been described as “earthy, beautiful, and honest”. She loves photographing newborns and babies and so she has created a website dedicated to only them called RayeBaby (coming soon). She also loves working with families as well, capturing genuine smiles and laughter that come about when kids are just being kids.
She has a very relaxed nature, making it easy for her tiny subjects to be her friend right from the beginning which puts mom/dad at ease. Raye takes time getting to know the clients and often puts her camera down to play with the children on their level. They often want to stay longer after the session to continue the fun – never knowing they just had pictures taken.
Raye’s main goal during a session is variety. Whether it be silly or serious, lightly posed or candids, colour or black & white – she yearns to capture it all.
